Rowley Registry - Wills

The last Will and Testament of Moses Rowley of the Town of Hillsdale in the County of Columbia and State of New York deceased. Registered this Twenty Second day of April 1806.

In the name of God Amen. I Moses Rowley of Hillsdale in the State of New York being weak in body but of sound and disposing mind and memory, Do make and publish this my last will and Testament.

Imprimus.  I resign my soul into the hands of Almighty God who gave it me and my body to be buried after my decease in a decent manner.

Secondly I give and bequeath to my dear and well beloved wife, the use and improvement of the one third of all my real and Personal Estate which shall remain after my just debts are paid so long as she shall continue [to be ?] my widow, and the rest of my real and personal Estate, I devise and bequeath as follows viz., I give my sons John and James a double portion of the same, to accrue to them when they shall respectively arrive at the age of twenty one years, and that my daughters,viz., Olivia, Eunice, Polly, Deborah, Hannah, Miranda, Betsy, Amorette & Sarah Maria shall have each an equal portion of my Estate, that is, I will my two sons aforesaid to have two parts of my said Estate, and each of my daughters one part and to accrue to them severally & respectively when they arrive at the age of twenty one years; and I will that the Executors whom I shall herefter appoint shall be Guardians to my said children, and sell dispose of and lay out said Estate as they may think most to the advantage of my said wife and children. And I do further ordain will and appoint that my brother Weeks Rowley, Nathaniel Rowley be my Executors & my dear & beloved wife Executrix of this my last will and Testament.

Dated at Hillsdale this twenty eighth day of November in the year of our lord one thousand eight hundred & five.

This may certify that we the subscribers saw the aforesaid Moses Rowley sign publish and declare the foregoing to be his last Will & Testament in his Presence and in the Presence of each other. The Interlineation made before signed.

County of Columbia NY. Be it also remembered that on the said twenty first day of April in the year one thousand eight hundred & six aforesaid Moses Rowley, Nathaniel Rowley and Patience Rowley Executors and Executrix in the said Will named personally appeared before me, James I. Van Alen, Surrogate of the County of Columbia aforesaid and was duly Qualified to the due performance and Execution of the said Will by taking the oath by Law appointed.
