Looking for parents of ANNE FULLER who m. JONATHAN ROWLEY in 1727, Middlesex Co., CT. Any info appreciated. Sharyn, Riverside, CA.

[ANSWER 7/23/96]

Could Anne & Deborah be descendants of Thomas1 Fuller who arrived in Mass. in 1638 on the Anne? It is possible that they could be descended from one of Thomas' sons, Jonathan2, b. 19 Jul 1673, m. Susanna Trask; John2, b. 22 Dec 1676, m. Phebe Symonds; Joseph2, b. 12 Aug. 1679, m. 1) Rachel Buxton, 2) Susanna Dorman; William2, b. 30 Nov 1685, m. 1) Elizabeth Goodale, 2) Deborah Heel(?); or Stephen2, b. 10 Aug 1700, m. Hannah Moulton. Unconfirmed data indicates Thomas(1) was nephew of Samuel & Edward Fuller of Mayflower. Dori Fulk,

EDITOR'S NOTE: This question was presented to Bruce Campbell MacGunnigle, C. G., who authored Vol. 4 of Mayflower Families Through Five Generations, Edward Fuller and has exhaustively researched the Fuller family.
7/23/96- The response received from Mr. MacGunnigle does not directly offer answers about the ancestry of Anne and Deborah Fuller. However, inasmuch as it was his comments that Anne and Deborah were not of "Little John" Fuller's family, had their family been discovered I am sure he would have brought it to our attention. He furnished several sources for data, and did state that "no connection to Redenhall [of Thomas Fuller] is mentioned." That would appear to preclude a relationship of the above mentioned Thomas Fuller to Samuel & Edward Fuller of the Mayflower.

[ANSWER 7/28/96]

Bruce Campbell MacGunnigle,"Mayflower Families Through Five Generations, Edward Fuller", Volume Four, (2nd edition, General Society of Mayflower Descendants, 1995)[1] reveals that Hannah MUDGE, born 28 Feb. 1738/9, was the daughter of Ebenezer MUDGE and the first of his three wives, Hannah (last name illegible) by whom he had five children. He married Patience Fuller some time after 21 Jan 1752, when she acknowledged a deed as "Patience Fuller."

Trying to connect my Velina ROWLEY with the appropriate family. Her father, Peter ROWLEY, b. ca 1796 NY, d. after 1860, son of Timothy and Lucy (-------) ROWLEY; m. Alice DUSTIN, prob. NY. He had several children in several states, including NY, PA, OH & WI. He founded a town of Rowley, WI, later changed to Two Creeks just north of Two Rivers, WI ca 1843. The 1796 census has both Timothys in Albany County, NY. By 1800, Timothy Jr. had moved to Rensselaer County. I think Darius Rowley of Ontario Co., NY could be a brother.

My interest is in trying to determine what proof there is to claims that William PALMER of Stepney (and the Plymouth Colony) was a member of the Vernay or Duvernay family. If anyone can supply documentation for the claim, it would be appreciated very much.

Jim Mc Loughlin

[ANSWER 7/16/96]

In The Colonial Genealogist XII:3, page 115, Carlton A. Palmer Jr., MAS, points out some compilers and genealogists have erroneously claimed William Palmer, Pilgrim, to be the son of Sir John (William) Palmer and Elizabeth Verney. This error of William's birth at Parham was appears to be caused by a misinterpretation of a copy of a Bishop's Transcript, which read, "Willm, younger sonne of William Palmer, Esquire, was Baptized on 18 April 1585." At Carlton Palmer Jr.'s request, the original records were rechecked, and it was found the Transcript should have read, "the child, William, was BURIED on 18 April 1585!

Cicero Rowley died 19 April 1904. Have information on son Seeley Wesley ROWLEY, but nothing on dau Jennie. Seeking information on parents, siblings and descendants. Also ancestry of Roy M. Chizum.

Chari Leitch

[ANSWER 6/25/97]

A family group sheet recently sent to me by Ernst Spencer, shows a Cicero Rowley with an estimated birth year of 1840, to be the son of Almon and Edith (Herrick) Rowley. This apparently was derived from the 1855 census of Caton, New York, where he was listed within that family. However, he was NOT listed among the heirs when Almon Rowley died in late 1883, although you show that Cicero died in 1904. [NOTE: Two children of Almon and Edith Rowley were Seeley and Wesley!]

The McManus children: Elda Marie, Eleanor June, William Milton, Susan Evelyn, Phillip Jerome and Helen Elaine.

Milton Crum

[ANSWER 11/06/97]

Located: An Estelle Durfee who was the wife of one James Casper Rowlee, who had a son, Karl Clayton Rowlee, born 11 Feb 1885. Karl Clayton Rowlee married Florence Vera Morrison, and their son was Seth James Rowlee. This looks like a possible fit. That particular line is Henry > Moses > Shubael > Shubael > Shubael > Constant > Ebenezer > Robert Hamilton > James Casper. Regards, Tedd Rowley

[RESPONSE 12/06/97]

After a couple weeks of work, I have satisfied myself that James Casper Rowlee is my 2gr-grandfather. I have his death certificate (showing he died in his daughter's house, a house I used to visit as a child) and census records, as well as a marriage record from Ashtabula county showing his marriage to Estelle Durfee. So I am convinced. - Milton Crum.

Did Patience Rowley (Henry> Moses> John>) marry Richard Skinner of Westchester, CT. In my Skinner Family, Richard Skinner married a Patience Rowley on 24 Feb 1736 or 1739. She died 22 Aug 1784. Richard died 2 Jan 1790.

Cathy Olson

[ANSWER 8/26/96]

According to the data I have, Richard Skinner of Westchester did marry Patience Rowley, daughter of John and Deborah (Fuller) Rowley.

While many genealogies currently show her mother, Deborah, to be a daughter of "Little John" Fuller who married Mehitable Rowley, the following is the statement found in the 2nd Edition of Volume 4 of Mayflower Families Through Five Generations, page 16: "Two other daughters have been claimed by W. H. Fuller: Deborah Fuller b. ca 1689, m. John Rowley, and Anne Fuller b. ca 1703/4, m. Jonathan Rowley. Neither is named in John Fuller's will nor were any LRs found to indicate a daughter's portion turned over to her husband. However, their children have Edward Fuller ancestry since John and Jonathan Rowley were both sons of Moses Rowley."

Both Deborah and Anne were alive when John Fuller died. His will names his daughters, but NOT those two. Old legends die hard. But the fact is, the General Society of Mayflower Descendants will accept neither Deborah or Anne as descendants of Edward Fuller through "Little John" Fuller. With that goes, of course, claimed ancestry by many of Rev. John Lothrop/Lathrop. [I was one who reluctantly gave up that ancestry. It wasn't mine! - TWR]

My 3rd great grandmother was Sarah Rowley who married Edward Gray/Grey (1765-1815), prob. in E. Haddam about 1790. Their first son, Joel, was born in Haddam 24 Jun 1790. Shortly thereafter they removed to Williamstown, Berks Co., MA and about 1803 removed again to Chenango, NY valley and settled in Madison and/or Oneida Co. Edward died about 1815 in Verona, Oneida Co. and Sarah removed to Chautauqua Co., NY with her seven youngest children. Joel had married Betsy Resseguie and settled on a farm in Oneida Co. I descend from Sarah's youngest daughter, Abigail, who married Henry Stoddard in Chautauqua Co. I have exhaustively researched in hopes of determining Sarah's parents. WILLIAM JESSIE ROWLEY. I am researching the Rowley family from around Eskridge, Kansas. William was born 6 July 1864 near Fort Kearney, Nebraska-- his parents were Jesse Rowley and Melissa (Fall) Rowley. Jesse was a scout for the Army in the Iowa Cavalry and served in the Nebraska Territory. He died 26 January 1866 in an action with Indians near Blackwater, a tributary of the Republican River. On 12 August 1867, his widow, Melissa, remarried Jacob Mayer at Lyons Creek, KS. A bible record says she died in March of 1870 from exposure trying to keep her children from the Indians. [ANSWER 4/04/97]

Bamsley Rowley (I had a birthdate of July 1787, but your date may be better), son of David Rowley and Ann (possibly Neal). Have copy of David's will in which Bamsley is mentioned which was probated in 1830. I show his wife as Betsy Harmon. I do not have his family, however. - Tedd Rowley.

According to my fragmentary information, Bemsley and Betsey (Harmon) Rowley had 11 children, among whom were Ashbill (d. age 7), Sibyl Maria (who m. Howard Mix), Moses, and Mark (who m. Abigail Johnson). I also have a David Rowley of Sugar Grove, PA, who m. Dimis Aldania Cowles, and had at least 5 children. I suspect he is a son of Bemsley.

I am trying to find information on a Betsey/Bettey ROWLEY, born ca 1720-1740, in the East Haddam or (Old) Lyme, Connecticut area. She married Ebenezer/Ebenezar MINER. Their child, Hannah MINER b. Aug 1, 1758, married Moses HUNTLEY in 1779 in Lyme CT. Moses Huntley's parents, Benejah and Ester (Howell) Huntley, were from East Haddam, CT.
