In 1811, it was ;"ordered that Passports be prepared for the following persons to travel through the Creek Nation of Indians - to wit, One for Mr. Job Rowley with his wife four children and five negroes, and one for Mr. Cornleius Thames with his wife four children and seven negroes from Beauford District, and one for Mr. Thomas Harris with his wife five children- his brother in law, his sister in law and one negro from Kershaw District South Caroline. Joab and his family came to Louisiana." (Passports of SE Pioneers) After arriving in Louisiana, Joab then returned to South Carolina to assist his son John to make the journey safely. He lived thereafter and died in Louisiana. (Louisiana Biographical and Historical Memoirs)
He served as a private in 17, 18, and 19 Consolidated Regiment Louisiana Militia in the War of 1812 and his son John served as a corporal, 10 and 20 Cons. Reg't., Louisiana Militia
